Great picture quality but Dolby Vision needs work!

Bought this a few weeks ago with the updated firmware that supports Dolby Vision. Overall great image quality. The set is a bit basic in bulid and much smaller that the UBP-X800 with no digital display or screen on the set. However one huge advatange is that with a firmware update it supports Dolby Vision. This is, however SEVERELY hampered - unfortunately, the unit does not auto-switch when you play a Dolby Vision disc which means that a) the switching has to be done manually from the menu and b) if you don’t know a disc has Dolby Vision and you don't therefore activate it in the menu, you miss out on the benefits (it can be quite difficult to see on Blu Ray discs whether a Dolby Vision signal is included) Sony - this could be an excellent product... please come up with a firmware update that auto-switches Dolby Vision on when it detects a Dolby Vision signal!!

Es ist ein wirklich schönes und kompaktes Gerät, was mich auch von den Funktionen her sehr angesprochen hat. Ich bin aber deswegen traurig, weil der Player nach ca. 1,5 bis 2 Stunden anfängt zu haken, stehen bleibt und dann ganz aussteigt. Und das Problem scheint schon lange bekannt zu sein. Nach dem letzten Firmware-Update, im März 2019, hat sich nichts mehr getan, um das Problem zu beheben. Den Support habe ich gar nicht erst angeschrieben, da in den vielen Foren die Enttäuschung allgegenwärtig ist. Das hätte ich mir mal besser vorher durchlesen sollen. Nach knapp zwei Wochen in meinem Besitz und einem Fehlschlag beim Sichten des Films "Tenet" als 4K-UHD geht das Gerät wieder zurück an den Absender. Wirklich schade!

I got this Blu-Ray Player as i was after one that played Ultra 4K HDR DVDS and Blu-Ray Discs and after buying this one and pairing it with my new hisense 4k Tv i was very happy that i can play my films i have.

The UPB-X700 player has a sleek design which will match most audio visual equipment. Standard Blu-Ray discs give excellent colour, audio and picture detail. DVD's also display well and the ability to upscale is definitely a bonus feature. All in all - a perfect addition to my Sony Bravia TV.

Easy to set up and use, good quality picture and sound and a smaller footprint to fit wherever you want it to go. Only minus point is that it runs via an adaptor box (supplied), it does not plug straight into the wall so after saving space on the unit itself, you then need to find extra room to accommodate the power supply unit.

Good 4k Blu-ray player

I bought this last month and plugged it into my Sony Bravia TV and was easy to get started with. I set this player up to output in the format of whatever was playing and the tv takes care of any upscaling. I also had to make sure the tv was set up for Blu-ray Discs which meant turning off most of the settings on the tv! The player starts up quickly and is not laggy when telling it what to do. It’s quiet as well and doesn’t have a glowy display (just 1 green led) so not intrusive. I think it can be used as a browser and apps can be played on this like a massive fire stick so would work well with a non-smart tv.

I've been putting off buying a 4K ultra player for a while as films are expensive. My old pioneer blu-ray player was getting louder and slower, so I decided to replace it with this one. The blu-ray picture is improved on this one, but 4K Ultra discs look and sound absolutely amazing! I'm just buying them 2nd hand. Highly recommended

Struggles to play 4K discs

Plays Blu Rays fine but half of the 4K discs I have tried freeze during playback between 30-60 minutes in. Have cleaned discs, made sure software is updated, reset the player and unplugged and restarted many times to no effect. I can see that this is a common problem from reviews.

Technisch alles gut. So bin ich es von SONY gewohnt. Gestalterisch schätze ich bei Mediengeräten allerdings Zurückhaltung. Auch hier präsentiert sich das Gerät selbst vorbildlich. Aber die zugehörige Fernbedienung stellt aus aufdringliche Weise NETFLIX in den Vordergrund. Das ärgert mich immer wieder, wenn ich mich eigentlich auf etwas schönes freue. Schade!

Does not play 3D

I spoke to support to verify this player will work on my new 65" OLED 4K TV. The advisor on the chat said yes, I went back on the chat at Sony support and asked the same question, the other operator said yes it will play 3D films on your new TV. It arrived, I set it up followed all instructions and quess qhat NO it will not play Blu ray 3D films. I arranged a return. I spoke to Richer sounds where I bought my new TV from a few days ago, they said there is no way it will play 3D blu ray films. I should of asked Richer sounds first before I wasted my time and money on this useless product.

De bouw van het apparaat ontzettend zwak, dun, breekbaar. De schijf is abnormaal dun - dit zal tot een snelle afbraak leiden. Als je USB-stick wil sluiten wordt de schijf altijd open omdat je onvermijdelijk zijn sensor raakt - dat zal ook tot een snelle afbraak leiden. Het apparaat speelt niet alle AVI video's zoals in beschrijving was gezegd. Zeer klein afstandbediening, toetsen zijn zo klein dat je ze niet kan duven - dat is onaanvaardbaar. Bovendien reageert het apparaat op commando's sclecht - je denkt dat het werkt niet. Het menu is zo somber, onduidelijk. Het apparaat is absoluut niet aanrader. Zal nooit meer iets van Sony kopen

Possesseur de l'UBP-X700 depuis presque 4 ans, j'en ai fait le tour et ne peux que louer sa qualité. L'image et le son sont superbes sur tous les formats lus (constatés sur deux écrans différents), et les formats sont justement tous pris en compte. Seulement un peu surpris au début sur certains standards de sons pris en compte sur Blu-Ray et non en fichiers sur disque dur relié en USB, mais je n'y prends plus garde depuis que j'ai adopté par habitude des formats compatibles selon l'utilisation. Un petit bémol : la lecture par index est absente. Je veux dire que l'on ne peut pas se déplacer directement sur la ligne de temps, et seule la lecture accélérée (trois vitesses différentes) est possible pour un fichier. Un peu dommage lorsque l'on interrompt une lecture, et que l'on veut ensuite la reprendre à l'endroit laissé... Peut-on espérer une mise à jour ajoutant cette capacité ? Les Blu-Ray sont eux pourtant reconnus et repris.

Really like how it upscales the DVDs. Blu-ray playback is also really good. A bit sad that it doesn't support HDCD format, and the main downside for me is that the player doesn't recognize the CD artist and the track titles. I know that Gracenote initially did that for this player, but this feature was disabled. It would be nice if Sony introduced an alternative for that on this player someday.

Second one I own: great UHD Blu-ray player

I have owned one of these for over 5 years already, so having searched the market for a cheap but decent Blu-ray player to replace a 22-year-old home cinema system and finding not much worth having for a reasonable price, I chose a second UBP-X700 from Sony. Although the apps available on the player are limited, it does provide Youtube which the kids like and to be honest, smart TVs and other devices provide these. Perfomance-wise, the picture is fantastic and it handles all formats and codecs you would want. Obviously 4K and HD Blu-ray discs have a pin-sharp picture, but this player also does a very good job of upscaling SD content from standard DVDs. It's very easy to use and the menus are intuitive with reasonable descriptions for the functions in each sub-menu. Definitely a great Blu-ray player for anyone wanting a feature-rich device with good performance at a sensible price.
