Versatile and optically superb ultra-wide zoom

I bought this lens to replace 3 wide prime lenses I had and to make life a bit easier when out taking landscape shots. I don't regret the decision as this is an outstanding and very versatile lens, from landscapes to macro to wide portraits, it can do it all. The first time I looked at images taken with this lens in photoshop, I laughed simply because the images were so good. It is sharp from corner to corner with no smearing or colour shift in the corners. Colour is vivid and pictures have good contrast no matter the aperture and even when pointed at the sun. It is bitingly sharp, and out-resolves all but one of the prime lenses it replaced. It produces beautiful sun stars too and can focus very close with creamy background blur at F2.8. There are a few pleasant surprises as well, it is smaller and lighter than I expected and balances well on my A7RIII. It is also very well made and feels very high quality in use. All in all I'd say it is amazing value, it has replaced 3 lenses for me and it is simply so good I cannot foresee it ever being replaced.

Komplett unscharf bei Offenblende an einer A7riv

Ich habe mir dieses Objektiv aufgrund mangelnder Alternativen für meine A7riv gekauft. Leider ist es im äußeren Bildbereich bei Offenblende extrem unscharf. Dies betrifft alle Brennweitenbereiche, allerdings besonders ab 20mm-35mm. Selbst bei Blende 4 sind diese Bereiche nicht für den professionellen Gebrauch nutzbar. Erst ab Blende 5.6 würde ich die Schärfe als "ok" bezeichnen. Eigentlich ist dieses Objektiv damit ein 16-35mm f5.6 für mich und kein f2.8. Nicht empfehlenswert. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt bei diesem Produkt leider überhaupt nicht.

Uma lente essencial. Filmar com uma lente destas é algo surreal. Auto-focus rápido e fiável, com um nível de detalhe impressionante. Nem tudo são rosas: em gimbal, a lente exige atenção extra, pois a extensão do barril ao passar dos 16mm para os 35mm altera o centro de gravidade, obrigando a balancear o conjunto algures entre os 24mm e os 27mm para minimizar diferenças. Em situações específicas, pode surgir algum ruído nos cantos, sobretudo em ISOs mais elevados ou em perfis log, mas com uma edição básica é fácil disfarçar. O ghosting em contraluz está presente e pode ser algo incómodo, embora com enquadramento cuidado e gestão da luz seja possível minimizar durante a captação.

I sold my lens and then discovered that I could not do without it so I purchased another. I use it for street photography to capture the environment and subject, astro and landscape photography. I've found it's not a lens I use often but when I need it, it's invaluable. I'm very happy with the sharpness of the lens and its low light capability. Wish list, I would like it to be lighter in weight.

Mi sono sempre trovato molto bene con questo obbiettivo nonostante ad ampie aperture (16mm) la distorsione sugli angoli sia notevolmente evidente. Ora a distanza di 4 anni e mezzo mi ritrovo a dover spendere 385€ per sostituire il meccanismo della messa a fuoco (ci tengo a precisare che le aziende ufficiali che effettuano queste riparazioni sono pochissime). Non mi sarei mai aspettato che un obiettivo così costoso e importante dopo così poco tempo avesse dei malfunzionamenti interni non causati da me.

Ich hatte noch nicht sehr viel Gelegenheit das Glas zu testen, an den Aufnahmen die ich bisher jedoch machen konnte gibt es nicht viel auszusetzen. Schwierig dieses Objektiv zu bewerten da man doch geneigt ist die Dinge an der Preis / Leistung zu messen und da können Mitbewerber wie z.B. Sigma auf jeden Fall ein Wörtchen mitreden. Um es zusammen zu fassen: Das Glas ist sehr gut aber ob es den PREIS WERT ist, muss jeder für sich selbst entscheiden.

Ich arbeite seit einigen Jahren mit dem Sony Equipment und es fehlte mir immer eine Brennweite unterhalb des 2.8/24-70mm. Ich habe zwar einige "Fremd"objektive im SuperWW, aber erst mit dem 2.8/16-35 habe ich die Abbildungsleistung bekommen, die ich gesucht habe. Schärfe bis an den Rand und absolut vertretbare Verzerrungen (die man ohnehin herausarbeiten kann)/

J'utilise depuis presque 6 mois cette optique et j'en suis très content. Elle supporte sans problème les 61 millions de pixels de l'A7RV. Je l'ai préférée au 14-28 pour sa lentille frontale plate qui permet de mettre un polarisant, indispensable pour une optique dédiée au paysage. Un bémol, léger, puisqu'il en faut bien un : le commutateur AF/MF bascule facilement en mode MF, il aurait fallu inverser la commande ou la rendre un peu plus dure.

Ich hatte das 12-24 sowie eine 35er Festbrennweite im Einsatz und war/bin mit beiden auch recht zufrieden. Bei Stadtstreifzügen und Landschaftsaufnahmen war ich jedoch stets mit Objektivwechseln beschäftigt bzw. ich habe gleich zwei Gehäuse "mitgeschleppt". Mit dem 16-35 GM habe ich eine qualitativ hochwertige Brennweite gefunden, die mir beides erspart, weil meine bevorzugten Brennweiten hier abgedeckt sind. Was die Optik leistet, ist hinreichend in zahlreichen Tests beschrieben worden. Sie liegt auch nach meinen Tests im obersten Qualitätsbereich und erfüllt meine Wünsche voll.

Das Objektiv war lange Zeit mein „immer drauf“ an der A7 RII. Nur die Auflösungen der Bodys werden immer höher. Da wäre es nicht verwunderlich, wenn es nächstes Jahr einen Nachfolger GM II von diesem Objektiv geben wird. Bis dahin immer noch ein State of the Art Objektiv. Nur wie lange noch?

Maintenant en service depuis 2 ou 3 semaines, un bijou, précis, qualité d'image au top. Pas trop de déformation à 16 mm. Vraiment un superbe objectif que je vais tester à fond lors de mon prochain voyage en Norvège - Manque juste un bouton pour couper la stabilisation.

Een geweldige lens die we tijdens de vakantie in IJsland heel erg veel gebruikt hebben. Zowel voor landschappen, zoals bijvoorbeeld een waterval of gletsjer, als in de stad, zoals het operagebouw in Reykjavík: het is een geweldig lens die nauwelijks vervormd.

De lens is technisch perfect en voldoet volledig aan de verwachtingen, maar de levertijd bedroeg in mijn geval 5 maanden. Sony beloofde ook 100€ korting bij aankoop (en bij samenaankoop met ILCE a7iv) en dat lijkt problematisch door de web-site van Sony. Sony voorziet ook software om raw images te converteren, maar die software werkt niet op alle PC's (zelfs met Win10).

Ich habe das Objektiv nach langem zögern nun endlich gekauft und bereue es, es mir nicht schon viel vorher zugelegt zu haben. Das Objektiv ist typisch Sony GM und überzeugt durch hervorragende Fertigung und Qualität, bis ins letzte Detail. Die Sony GM-Serie überzeugt mich immer wieder ! Dieses Objektiv sollte sich in jeder professionelleren Tasche - oder noch besser, an der Kamera befinden :-)

Das Objektiv spielt ganz oben mit, was Haptik und Bildleistung an geht. Ich hatte mittlerweile drei von diesen Objektiven und es bleibt leider nur bei einer Hassliebe. Ich hatte über die Jahre Feuchtigkeit im Objektiv (trotz Dichtung) und eine kaputte Blende (wurde innerhalb der Garantie repariert). Das Objektiv hat eine super Bildleistung und macht Spaß, aber leider ist der aufgerufene Preis zu hoch. Wäre es 300€ günstiger aufgestellt, hätte meine Bewertung 5 Sterne. Ich besitze zusätzlich noch das Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 und erwische mich leider immer wieder, wie mir die Brennweite in beide Richtungen fehlt. Dafür ist die Bildleistung in der verfügbaren Brennweite bei Blende 2.8 gleich und das für weniger als die Hälfte vom Preis des G-Masters. Ich würde das Sony 16-35mm F2.8 GM empfehlen, aber nur wenn einem der Preis egal ist.

Angeschafft für Video, weil ich mit der alten Kombi 12-24 und 24-70 jeweils 1:2,8 GMs auf Cam 1 und Cam 2 für Video nicht mehr so glücklich war. Das Ultraweitwinkel 12 -24 ist ein sehr gutes Fotoobjektiv, im Videobereich aber oftmals zu weit. Zu verzerrend. Dafür fehlt es nach oben heraus. Und je nach Umgebung (Bauunternehmen, Strand, ...) wechsle ich höchst ungern draussen die Objektive. Also jetzt das 16 - 35 GM, welches auch in einem anderen housing als spezialisierte Videolinse für die professionellen Camcorder der Cine-Line von Sony angeboten wird. Optische Qualität über jeden Zweifel erhaben, wertige Mechanik, guter Brennweitenbereich. Sehr gute Auflösung, sauschneller AF. Als einziger Minuspunkt das natürlich bauartbedingt hohe Gewicht und Größe. Aber bei Videojobs schleppt das dann gerne der Assistent ;-)) Ich würde es auch als einziges Reiseobjektiv mit zB einer Alpha7 IV mitnehmen, da diese im Videomodus den Super35 Modus mit 1,5 crop optional hat und zudem den wirklich erstaunlich guten Clear Image Zoom mit nochmals 1,5facher Vergrößerung dazuschalten kann. Sogar für Fotos sehr brauchbar. Und dann ist diese GM Linse sogar eine schöne und hochwertige Travel-Optik, das Gewicht bleibt natürlich ein Thema.

I've recently switched to Sony, and I bought this lens as wide-angle lens. It is fantastic piece of gear that I cannot suggest highly enough. Both the feel of the device and the pictures are amazing. It is sharp to a fault and it's great for high focus/boken effect.

Had hiervoor Fe 12-24 mm f2.8 GM ook een prachtlens ,maar voor mijndoelstelling was die iets te wijd heb bijna altijd op 24mm aan het fotograferen. De 16-35 mm heeft iets meer ruimte voor mijn doel, stelt snel en juist scherp is niet te zwaar kortom een prima lens.

E' la prima lente che ho acquistato insieme alla prima camera Sony. Devo dire che il primo impatto con il mondo mirrorless Sony non è stato facile. Abituarsi al nuovo sistema di messa a fuoco, soprattutto negli scatti notturni, è stato davvero difficile. Non sempre il punto di infinito corrisponde all'infinito, anche in queste lenti elettroniche, per cui ho cominciato ad imparare a mettere a fuoco attraverso lo zoom dell'immagine. Ovviamente il focus picking, soprattutto per mettere a fuoco le stelle, non è indicato. Di giorno è tutt'altra cosa, la maf è fulminea e precisa. E' una lente da paesaggista, che restituisce immagini nitide e dettagliate. Le focali da ultra grandangolo (16) a 35 permettono di poterla utilizzare per quasi tutto, anche per i ritratti ambientati.

Les focales fixes ont toujours eu ma préférence pour leur qualité à priori meilleure ; en grand angle, on pense toujours pouvoir se déplacer aisément. Mais ce 16-35 se révèle à la fois plus performant, et plus pratique, que mes focales fixes. Le piqué est superbe, des la pleine ouverture, y compris sur les bords. Le range est, pour mon usage, idéal en reportage, notamment le 35mm. Sans être miniature, la taille est très acceptable sur un Alpha7. C'est mon premier objectif G dans mon équipement, et il répond à toutes ses promesses.

Hochwertige Verarbeitung. Sehr gut in vielen Bereichen einsetzbar, wo man nicht die ganze Ausrüstung dabei hat aber trotzdem gute Qualität braucht. Bei einer bestimmten Modellreihe gab es Probleme mit den verbauten Chips, sodass Fehler bei Fokusierung und Belichtung auftreten. Das wird aber kostenlos repariert. Top!

I didn't use wide angles (more than 24) before I had this lens I was amazed how sharp it was great blend would't be without it 35 is one of my favourite focal lengths so it is extremely versatile
