Never heard about such a problem!. The only thing I may suggest is try an hard reset of the machine and see if it solves.

Since Bravia55Hx923 put me in the loop, I'll try to help. If your recorder doesn't have a D in the model number (i.e. hxD780) it won't be able to receive digital channel since it doesn't have a digital tuner...

VOB files are the standard format for DVD disks. Does your PC recognize it as a standard DVD? In this case it should work fine also on the recorder. If instead they are copied from a DVD and , for example, put directly in the root of the disk instead of the standard directory hierachy of a DVD, I'm not confident they will play on the recorder.

Be aware that the internal HDD is formatted in a Unix like standard. As far as I know you should be able to open it connecting it (internally or via an USB enclosure as suggested) to a Linux PC not a Windows one.

I'm not really sure what kind of file you will find in it and if they can be read via a common player.

Try a reset of the recorder (poweroff +stop button on the deck, unplug for 2 minutes, apply the easy setup procedure). This should solve the problem with the UPDATE/tuning stuck . Afterword you should retry the firmware update to 1.70. Just to check it, firmware update can only be made via downloading it from the sony support site, burning it on a DVD and apply the procedure on the deck: no picture shown on TV, no progress PERCENTAGESIGN shown... do not confuse this with the option in the system menu that does nothing since the firmware is not available OTA.

I'm not a Pana expert, but it doesen't seems that the DMR EH 50 has a DVBT tuner, so which channels are you expecting to tune on it?

It sounds to me, if as you say the remote is still commanding the TV, that it may be th IR receiver on the recorder that is faulty, so in this case you'll not solve the problem with a new one ... keep your fingers crossed.

One additional thing that you may check is that, at least with my TV (SONY KDL32W4000) whenever I push a button on the recorder remote the green led blink so I'm sure the remote is sending something...

Another possibility is that you changed somehow the command mode on the commander or the recorder. By default it is DVD3. In this case you don't see any indication in the front panel, otherwise it's displayed a small 1 or 2. You can check it also in the system menu, but obviously without the remote is quite difficult :(

Depending on what you see in the front panel (nothing for DVD3,1 for DVD1 or 2 for DVD3, in order to setup the remote accordingly you have to

press ENTER
whaile ENTER is pressed, push 1 for DVD1, 2 for DVD2 or 3 for DVD3
keep both pushed for more than 3 seconds

there are lot of threads regarding this problem in the forum. This is a known bug of the latest fw of the recorder (1.70). Be sure you have it installed and apply the workaround (you may find the procedure i.e. in this thread https://www.sony.it/discussions/message/1310564#1310564 ).

As you wrote it's normal that your recorder try an update 4 times a day. The fault is in the firmware 1.70 (be sure you have it installed.

The procedure to bypass the problem is similar to the one you tried:

reset the recorder (stop + poweroff on the deck)
unplug from main for 2 minutes
apply the easy setup procedure, including retuning the machine

Once it's done you should have it working as usual

My opinion is that your question, even if understandable, is without an answer.

Since, finalizing the disks, make them standard DVD playable on every DVD player , as far as I know, on any DVD is not possible to view informations about date/size (lenght yes via display button) of the clip that are contained (that by the way are splitted in several .VOB files). SO in this way you loose these possibilities.

On the other way, if you don't finalize the disks, in case of any fault in your recorder you'll loose everything since they are not playable on any other DVD player (including PCs).

The only bypass that I can think of is to include, manually, in the Title the information you need so you'll have them also after the finalizing process

Non so se si applica al tuo tv, ma penso che in generale quasi tutti gli apparati (almeno lo fa il mio dvd recorder ed il mio tv tutti Sony) prendono l'orario dal canale digitale (lo puoi erificare sintonizzando qualche canale di quelli meno conosciuti che lo hanno sbagliato e ti ritrovi il tv con la guida tutta sfalsata, a Roma p.es. 7Gold), E' possibile quindi che il fatto di aver configurato aggiornamento digitale SI forzi anche il tv a mantenere aggiornato l'orario.

Non so se è possibile sul tuo TV impostare l'ora su "manuale" anzichè "automatico", ma se così ti funziona lo lascerei stare....

Maybe your question is not really clear. DVD recorder like mine RDR HXD870 has the ability to edit videos got from internal sources (DVB-T tuner) or external one (AV and/or CAM via firewire connections). The only problem is that SONY is not marketing anymore such devices: you may still find some remaining in store/internet of the HXD or DC series.

What does it means that it doesn't display the programme guide? When you push the button, it does nothing at all or it shows the grid empty? I assume you are using the Digital EPG since the Guideplus one is not working anymore since more than one year...

In any case a factory reset doesn't erase the HDD content, you'll just loose any specific setting and timer you have changed (i.e. HDMI settings, language, channels,etc.).

I assume that both the devices support the HDMI CEC (since it switch off PVR when TV is switched off). Normally there are some function on the PVR that actually wake up the TV. On my SONY DVD recorder, i.e., this is done when you hit the play button or the titlelist or the menu or the TV Guide. So if you switch on the PVR and push one of this button, the TV is automatically switched on and set to the HDMI channel.

I don't know your camcorder model, but normally it should have at least some kind of USB driver that can enable it to be accessed by your PC and seen by specific application, i.e. WIndows Movie Maker, that permit getting, viewing and edit what is recorded on your camcorder

It's a known bug of the latest firmware. In few words, aftersome times, it is not able to store any more channels updates, so, in your case, everytime it is switched off it "forgets" the new channell discovered and everytime it is switched on it find it anew!

The workaround for this and other problems in DTT tuning is to hard reset the recorder and go trough the easysetup procedure. Youwon't loose any recording in the HDD, just the specific setting and anytimer already set.

To reset it:

ensure no disk is in the tray
push stop and power off buttons on the deck
unplug from power for two minutes
plug it and go trough the easy setup

Non conosco il tuo modello in particolare, ma in generale se la guida tv è solo quella disponibile dallo standard DVB-T (ovvero se non ha accesso a database diversi tipo Rovi) questo è quello che mandano le varie emittenti cui è demandato il compito di inserire i dati del palinsesto (senza alcun obbligo normativo). Non avendo un altro tuner il Tv è in grado di recepire i dati del solo MUX su cui è sintonizzato (potrai notare che se vai su RETE 4 ti compaiono anche i dati di canale 5 e italia 1).

Il risultato (purtroppo solo in Italia) è quello che vedi: pochissimi canali mandano il palinsesto completo (p.es LA7, cielo, Realtime) tutti gli altri mandano solo il programma corrente ed il prossimo.

you should just press once or twice the info button on the tv remote till the writing disappear (at the first push it may appear the clock on the right bottom side of the screen, but it depend on the tv model).

Sony seems no more interested in DVD/BD recorder outside Japan. It's very strange. Once the disk is finalized it's like a normal DVD you by on a shop, if it's not finalized you don't even see anything on it. The software is Pioneer not panasonic, but it should not change the behaviour.

Once again, as Blencogo wrote, when you insert the disck in the recorder and press menu, it appears the coloured style that you selected in the finalize menu or the normal title list that you get also in the HDD? It should be the first option...

noway. You may find in internet that the XFS format of the internal hard disk may be recognized by Linux, but it's a complex procedure and in any case I don't think that your movie may be used directly by the pc. With a lot of time to spend, the only possibility is via DVD (4 GB each, so 100 copy ...)

I really don't know what is meant for the decoder setup. It shouldn't be used, just the normal AV connection.

Ti confermo che l'upgrade non tocca il contenuto dell HDD, a seconda della procedura utilizzata resetta o meno solo i settaggi fatti ed i timer. Ricorda comunque che, a scanso di problemi con il sintonizzatore digitale, devi fare anche un reset alla fine dell'installazione (STOP+POWEROFF). Anche qui perdi solo i settaggi.

I think you should read the section regarding connection to a video recorder rather than an external decoder. If everything work fine, you should be able to watch sky selecting Line1 as input on the dc205; otherways use an additional SCART directly from sky to the tv as suggested.
